From local soaps to socks, scarves to duffle bags. We at Jospeh Chance go out of our way to show that Chance Is a fine thing.

Joseph Chance’s Founder, Marcus Thompson, was raised on the market in the Piece Hall, Halifax where the Joseph Chance shop is now situated) selling cloth and fabrics on the family market stall. “My father sold material on the markets and his business partner worked on the sewing machines. We had an over-locker and blind hemmer in the cellar workshop and a sewing machine and a tailors’ dummy in the kitchen”.

My Mothers side of the family were very different and although she was a respected and respectable headmistress her father/my grandfather, Joseph Chance, was a self-made successful bookie and speedway rider.

He had a trophy cabinet full of silverware from champion greyhounds he had bred, raced and owned as pets after and my weekends with him were spent on various dog tracks and racecourses across the north of England.

The ethos behind Joseph Chance is the combination of these two different but complementary worlds.
